![]() What a first time experience with a dealer's ability to fix their own product with factory trained mechanics, if it wasn't for the truck being under warranty I will have to fix it myself.Similar to other timing cover oil leaks we’ve written about, the 4.6 liter 1UR-FE V8 engine in the Lexus GX460 can develop oil leaks where the timing chain cover meets the cylinder block and cylinder head. The bolt was torqued down and all the other body bolts were doubled checked and re-torque', the cab/bed was even realigned. The service associate told me that he does not want me to waste my lunchtime to fix the problems and that he would pick the truck up from were I worked, fix the issues and bring it back to me. I call in the morning and tell my service guy what I found and that I didn't want to drop my truck off again, and that I will be coming in on my lunch and I will expect them to drop everything for me and to torque the bolt down asap and that I'm not even worried about lining the cab/bed up because I can now longer trust them to complete any repair right. I get home crawl under to look around and I find the right rear cab body mount bolt loose as can be rattling around, and I noticed that the cab and the bed are not lined up to each other. On the ride home I hear a rattling in the back of the truck. ![]() My service guy apologizes for what happened and that the mechanic was sorry for what happened. I get a call from the dealer at work and I'm told that the mechanic must have pinched the wiring while putting everything back together, the mechanic had patched the broken wires for now and they ordered a new wiring harness. I call the service department and talk to my service associate and tell him what I found, he says to bring it back tomorrow morning and they would check it out. I find that the wiring harness on the left side frame had been crushed and I can see some bare copper wires inside the harness loom. Ok there is something wrong here, when I get home I crawl under the truck to look around. So I stop for gas on the way home and I can't put any more than $6.00 of gas in the tank, all the way home the gas level warning message is lit up. When I picked up the truck Wednesday the Service associate said they had to put in $5.00 of gas in before they took it out to test drive it and that I will have to put gas in because it was empty, thats funny because I thought I had 3/4 of gas in it when I brought it in. WTH and HS, I went into the Service Managers Office and asked why they had gone to such an extreme for the repair, he said that because the motors are set so far back from the front end of the truck and how tight they are on the sides that it is the only way to easily do the repair and that it looks more involved then it is, Ok I guess/hope they know what there doing. They had raised the cab up off the frame pulled the motor and front drive assembly out, with the motor on a stand dismantled. I stopped off at the dealer Friday April 6th to have them clear a warning light on the dash of my rental, while there I looked in on my truck. It took the dealer from drop off Thursday April 5th to Wednesday 11th pickup. Ok, Sorry about getting back so late about my truck oil leak repair, got distracted with a few things needing more of my attention, one of them was paying my 2017 taxes. and get it in while your truck is still under warranty. I'm just putting this out there to let everyone know that they better push back from reading this thread grab your flashlights and check your PS pumps for oil and look real good between bed and cab for rust under that bed seal. ![]() Don't get me wrong.I like my Gen3 styling, front grill, and design lines. On a second note they still have to schedule my truck for the body shop to repair the body rust that I found 600 miles ago on the front of the bed on both sides between the cab and bed were the black rubber seal is attached to the front end of the bed, it was easy for me to see because my truck is white. I was really impressed how fast they got started on the repair. ![]() I picked up my 2017 Taco Aug/2017.4k miles and I have the dreaded timing cover oil leaking on the PS pump confirmed today by dealer this morning, they didn't waste any time to schedule a repair time because they had the top end and front cover off when I went in to pick up my rental. ![]()
